According to some LAPD officers, “a gay man can’t be raped”. Sign the petition to get an apology for James, gay men, and all rape victims.

On August 31, 2009 James Hornik was raped by another male in Hollywood, California. Mr. Hornik found himself in great need of police assistance and called on the LAPD, trusting that they would help him in his sudden predicament. When asked if he could press charges against his attacker, the LAPD officers simply responded, “A gay man can’t be raped”. Mr. Hornik was treated at Cedars Sinai Hospital but was denied a forensic rape collection kit by the LAPD, whose job it is to issue such kits through their forensic team.

James Hornik has been fighting for more understanding and recognition that men (gay or straight) can be raped ever since that muggy night in August of 2009 with very little help at all. He has contacted organizations such as LAMBDA Legal, GLAAD, the ACLU, the NoH8 Campaign and various others only to be denied help and led in circles. Mr. Hornik even filed the proper complaints with the city, county and the LAPD internal investigation team. The LAPD was exonerated from any wrong doing or neglect by the mayor.

The goal of this petition is to demand that the LAPD make a formal apology to Mr. Hornik and the citizens of Los Angeles County in general for their failure to recognize what was and is a very serious situation and a growing problem within the gay community and society as a whole.

Pause for one moment and ask yourself, what if it happened to you and no one heard your cries?

I’mma reblog this cause what MR. Hornik went through is inexcusable but when we talk about rape and sexual violence

Howdy, great and interesting Tumblr! I’ve made one to contribute, PLEASE add it to represent the many who feel in-between the 99% and the 1%. Thanks!

What I’m getting from this is: you don’t have disabilities that prevent you from working, networking, or working out. Actually, it seems you have no disabilities at all because you don’t need health insurance. You’ve been lucky enough to not have been in an accident that could’ve resulted in expensive hospital bills despite how much you’d worked out before. And since you basically say health insurance is useless, you probably don’t have a problem with not all fertile female-assigned-at-birth being able to afford salpingo-oophorectomy the way you could afford vasectomy. You’re a cisgender male, meaning pregnancy wouldn’t have been something you would’ve had to worry about were you to have been raped. So what happens to those people who can’t afford (or simply don’t want) contraceptive surgery who do have to worry about this?

You’re so full of abled privilege it’s not even funny. “Visualization techniques to augment my mental health”? What the fuck does that even mean?

pixyled:

I can’t even…

cool, you’re also a white guy that gets paid MORE than women and people of color. So that 100,000 bucks you see a year? Yeah, women and people of color make a fraction of that a year for your same work and shit.
You’re privelged. You’re also paying taxes and shit but guess what? The 1% and coproration are using tax loop holes to avoid paying taxes. They aren’t doing their fair share. Meanwhile, they lay off workers while making plenty of profits. they get tax breaks to CREATE jobs, not get rid of them.

TL dr; You’re priveleged and the 1% is fucking us all over.

I think it’s fair to assume he’s also cis and able-bodied (mostly because he was in the army). Also, LOL @ “I chose my degree wisely” because what the hell, no one wants a world where everyone has the same jobs. Not to mention, I’m pretty sure someone who makes over $100k per year is not the 99%.

tranzient:

That’s what she means. Women are still being regarded as inferior and economically, politically and socially disenfranchised.

But ehhh kind of a shocking way of putting things.

Before you comment again on the use and meaning of the word n*****, I would like for you to go to your local library or amazon.com, order The N Word by Jabari Asim, and read it from cover to cover. Really let it sink in. And then you might perhaps be capable of discussing this topic around other people, and not sounding ignorant. kthanxbye.

it’s cute when white people quote the dictionary like it’s the holy word.

What the hell is this, like, how could she think that’s okay? Bullet-point lists work for me, so here’s what I find problematic:

Believing that having a male identity is strongly linked with perceiving oneself as masculine. This is particularly awful because it’s a statement that’s supposed to more accurately describe those in the autistic spectrum, implying that those with autism/Asperger’s are just “not seeing things the way they should” and “jumping to conclusions.”

Cissexism is written all over the idea that FAAB trans people are just “unhappy as girls.” Remnants of sexism are also present somewhere in there, but I can’t quite articulate why. Perhaps it’s because many women are being erased (those in the autistic spectrum who identify as masculine being a prime example).

“If such girls do believe they have a boy’s mind in a girl’s body, their higher than average number of autistic traits may also mean they hold their beliefs very strongly, and pursue them to the logical conclusion: opting for sex reassignment surgery in adulthood.” Basically, this is ignoring bodily dissonance/dysphoria and attributing physical transition to it being a “logical step” that must always come after social dysphoria. It being described as a logical conclusion is appalling even to those for whom social dysphoria came first. It is also ableist vomit in that “oh those poor autistic people can’t possibly know if they’re truly trans!”

Just, get out. I was expecting some kind of relation between social dysphoria and social awkwardness, not this. The only thing their research backs up is that the average AQ of FAAB trans people is higher than that of cis women, how do they go on to conclude such fuckery from that?

70 Percent of Anti-LGBT Murder Victims Are People of Color

70 Percent of Anti-LGBT Murder Victims Are People of Color:
notyourkinddear:

“The National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs released its annual report on hate violence motivated by sexual orientation, gender identity and expression and HIV status last week. The report documents 27 anti-LGBT murders in 2010, which is the second highest annual total recorded since 1996. 70 percent of these 27 victims were people of color; 44 percent of them were transgender women.

The study also found that transgender people and people of color are each twice as likely to experience violence or discrimination as non-transgender white people. Transgender people of color are also almost 2.5 times as likely to experience discrimination as their white peers.”

“But why do you make everything about race?” I hear you say…

mylifeasafeminista:

Dear Lady Gaga,

The more I learn about you, the worse it gets.

First, you allowed “Born This Way” to be played and performed without the line about supporting people regardless of their sexual and/or gender identities. This was especially ironic considering that this song was supposedly written as a “gay anthem.”

Then, there are all the times you have made transmisogynistic comments. Although I strongly believe that gender policing is unacceptable, I don’t think you have handled these situations appropriately, to say the least. You can’t combat transphobia with transmisogyny.

Now, my dashboard is full of posts about your recent performance in Australia, in which you used a wheelchair as part of your costume. As “Jesse Billauer, the founder of the quadriplegic advocacy group Life Rolls On,” rightfully said: ”I invite [Gaga] to learn more about the 5.6 million Americans who live with paralysis. They, like me, unfortunately, don’t use a wheelchair for shock value.”

Let’s not forget that time you equated feminism with man hating, as if loving men and being a feminist were mutually exclusive.

Because you are such a famous celebrity, your comments and actions are extremely significant. Each time you express transphobic, ableist, and anti-feminist sentiments, you are sending a message to the world. You are reinforcing the dominant ideologies which allow for the marginalization and oppression of the groups you claim to support. It seems that every time you take one step forward, you take two steps backwards.

P.S. You are not, and will never be, the face of the LGBTQ community. Please stop referring to us as “the gays.” I do not find it particularly endearing or complimentary; in fact, I find your comments to be rather trivializing and offensive.

Update: Lady Gaga’s recent performance was in Australia, not New Zealand. I apologize for the error.

^^^ “the gays” is so objectifying. Fuck off, Gaga. You’re a joke.

The gays? THE GAYS???

Shaking my fucking head.

“you allowed “Born This Way” to be played and performed without the line about supporting people regardless of their sexual and/or gender identities.”

Wait, what? What the fuck? What the fuck is the song supposed to be about then? What the hell? There

Also the “the gays” thing.Although since I believe she’s bisexual that’s not… as ba— yes, yes it is she’s kind of still erasing bi people and I believe some lesbian women feel erased by just saying “gay” because that is generally more of a male-specific term (although others identify as gay, but some do feel erased and it doesn’t address the bi-erasure)

She’s not even an ally. (she doesn’t even pretend to be an ally to trans people and I’m pretty sure she’s bi, so she can’t really be an ally of her own community) :/

*sigh*

Are you shitting me?

I also have one genuine question: why does she portray herself as an ally as opposed to a member of the community? She said she’s bi (or I’m pretty sure she did), so why does it still sounds like she’s othering the non-straight community? It’s just so weird.

And sorry for being bitter, but the less lines sung from Born This Way, the better. They’re all downright awful, and I think I can find at least one problematic thing with each one of them (even—or especially—those about sexuality).

Couldn't he have sung any other song?

Justin Adkins, a trans man, was arrested at the protest on the Brooklyn bridge on Saturday. He was repeatedly mispronounced after identifying himself as transgender, asked about his genitals, had his genital region patted down anyway, was moved from the cell with the guys he had been arrested with (where he asked to remain) into a cell with around eight men he didn’t know who were detained for crimes unrelated to the protest, where he was handcuffed to a bar for eight hours next to the only functioning toilet which all detainees were brought in to use. During that time he was refused food and water, openly mocked, and made to feel so unsafe that he could not use the restroom for the entire duration of his detention.

His statement here: http://justinadkins.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/Police-mistreatment-of-transgender-man.pdf

Please call to voice your outrage and demand trans-specific protocols:
· 90th precinct (where he was detained): (718) 963-5311 (x3 for community affairs)
· NYPD Switchboard: 1-646-610-5000
· Police Commissioner Kelly: http://www.nyc.gov/html/mail/html/mailnypd.html

Sample complaint:
Justin Adkins, a transgender man who was arrested at the Occupy Wall Street Protest October 1st on the Brooklyn Bridge, was mistreated while in custody at Precinct 90 because he is transgender. He was handcuffed to a railing next to a restroom for at least 8 hours, made fun of, and not given food. The NYPD needs to have a written protocol and train its officers on how to treat transgender people.

Cristian Fernandez is only 12 years old. And if Florida prosecutor Angela Corey has her way, he’ll never leave jail again.

Cristian hasn’t had an easy life. He’s the same age now as his mother was when he was born. He’s a survivor of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. In 2010, Cristian watched his stepfather commit suicide to avoid being charged with abusing Cristian.

Last January, Cristian was wrestling with his 2-year-old brother, David, and accidentally broke David’s leg. Despite this, their mother left Cristian with his brother again in March. While the two boys were alone, Cristian allegedly pushed his brother against a bookcase, and David sustained a head injury. After their mother returned home, she waited six hours before taking David to the hospital. David eventually died.

Now Cristian is being charged with first degree murder — as an adult. He’s the youngest person in the history of his Florida county to receive this charge, and his next hearing is scheduled for tomorrow.

WESTERN TELEVISION/ MOVIE LAND!

crankyindian:

thesavagesalad:

So before I get into this post, I do want to put the warning out there that this does contain some discussion on sex as the title would suggest.

A bit of back story: I identify as a queer, desi (identifies with the South Asian diaspora) lady folk who has lived in Australia for a massive portion of her life. This means I’ve spoken the main language as fluently as I can, engaged in the mainstream Western culture and Australian discourse, studied in it, worked in it and so on.

Now after all these years and experiences, you’d think I’d be taken in as a functioning member of society who is full of complexities and other cool things. You’d think I wouldn’t be an “other” any more. That my existence wouldn’t be watered down to a mere stereotype. You’d think so yeah?

Don’t worry, I’m crying too.

The thing is, despite engaging in all these things and all, I’m still an “other”. And this “otherness” has certainly been internalised, confronted, rejected and been the the trigger for many of my escapades with fried food. And the thing is, I was the last one to know of my otherness. And when I recognised it, it through everything I had struggled for to integrate into this society right out the metaphorical window.

This otherness certainly defined my most intimate aspect of my identity to the outside world before I even explored that facet of myself. My sexuality.

I think the first time it actually hit me was when this guy I was dating stated “so are you gonna show me a few tricks from the kama sutra eh?”. I was lost for words no lie. We hadn’t even made out yet and he already defined what I meant to him.

And then the statements got even more whack, one non-POC person at a time

“oh I thought you were different, you were new to try”

“but the way you do things is so exotic” (because apparently blowjobs are an exotic phenomenon? )

“give me some of that curried love” (no my vagina is not lined with spices that’s unhygienic )

“tell me how the caste system works” (mid-way through making out I MEAN REALLY PEOPLE. REALLY.)

“mmm spicy”(I USE DEODERANT MA’AM. THE SAME ONE AS YOU. )

“I can feel the Sahara in you” (I’M NOT EVEN AFRICAN WHO ARE YOU LEAVE ME ALONE IM EATING DONUTS HERE)

YES PEOPLE. THESE ARE ALL REAL THINGS THAT PEOPLE HAVE SAID TO ME.

AND APPARENTLY I’M SUPPOSED ACCEPT THESE AS A COMPLEMENT.

OH AND THIS ONE TAKES THE CAKE FIRST REAL DATE IN THE SPRING OF 2007

“Oh you’re Indian? I love Indian food!” WHAT IS WITH YOU PEOPLE AND ASSOCIATING US NON WHITE PEOPLE WITH FOOD

I started keeping a look out on POC representation in Western Media. Any POC rep. Especially from the sexuality angle. I observed that most black people of tv were hyper sexualised, magical, soulful, angry and/ or were still stuck in pre civil rights movement days. Or in plantations. Indigenous people of any type did not exist and if they did they lived in the forest. They too were hyper sexualised savages (why I do not know). The Asian man was either desexualised or incredibly hyper sexualised whilst the Asian women were a fetish. Middle Easter Men and Desi Men shared the same fate as the Asian man AS WELL AS BEING TERRORISTS YAY. Whilst the women were oppressed, scared of all of their male relatives, exotic belly dancers who will cook for you or you know, nonexistent. I admit to not discussing queer identities but I have observed that the reps of queer folks let alone POC queers is just as appalling.

Key words here- POC reps on sexuality often end in them being hyper-sexualised of lacking of any sexuality- and they were all rooted in oppressive fear mongering type stereotypes. When I raised this issue with a few “friends” at the time, they told me to quit whining and take it as a complement.

yeah

I longed to break that statement down and ask them how they would feel if the every essence of who they were was broken down to a food flavouring aka spicy. I longed to ask them how they would feel like if the entire grouping of white people had to conform to a sexual stereotype, but then it dawned on me. White people don’t have stereotypes in the mainstream because they are portrayed as complex, layered people with hobbies and favourite things to do and jobs and allergies and pets and shit. When white people had sex- they weren’t having “white sex” it was called sex. When they made out, it was called “kissing” not “white kissing”.

I felt a unbearable amount of helplessness and invisibility when I realised this. I could never compare them or argue with them when regarding to cultural and sexual references because non-POC folk had millions of identities to look at. They had plenty of positive representations of sex and sexuality.

Their sexuality came from within. Mine apparently came from the kama sutra.

Now I do believe that women still have shit rep in media in general. But even then there is a heir-achy. Without a doubt if we had to put a black woman up with a white woman in the media, I think it’s quite obvious to see who would be the main character. Who would be the love interest. Who would be whimsy cool complex hipster chick and who would be sassy angry friend with no heart? Who gets to make out with Ryan Gosling or some other hot leading dude at the end of the day? Replace the black woman with a woman of another ethnicity and you still have the same dynamic. She’s still viewed as less desirable.

And if a POC woman is desirable? It’s not because of who she is, but because of her POC-ness (as I often observed). She’s exotic. She’s a flavour. She’s an “outer world experience”.The thing is, these are common portrayals of POC women in our media. These are the norms in what we see, and these norms influence us. They even get internalised by some of us POC’s who’ve grown up in Western society for all our lives.

Fed up and hurt by the failure in representation of WOC sexuality, I didn’t know what to do. I saw a few recommendations for this one show called Misfits, and I thought “what have I got to lose I’ll be drinking anyway”.

Damn was I wrong. I mean, it’s not like I haven’t seen good portrayals of POC women before (Skins, Degrassi, The Cosby Show, ATLA etc) but to see a POC woman being treated in a main couple, being showered with real affection and love, having awesome sex because she can, being called beautiful because she really was and not because of her “POC-ness” just blew my mind. This scene alone just meant so many things to me

Not once did I ever hear Simon say something that high-lighted her otherness. She wasn’t called his “chocolate girl” or his “exotic beauty”. There wasn’t this massive issue made about the fact that they were an interracial couple. They were just a couple.

And the thing is, Misfits did it again.

and again

And not once was I left disappointed with their portrayal of POC folks in relationships and all.

But you think I’d be appeased by this and never criticise tv and movies ever again yeah? No- I got more critical. I was always on the lookout now. Again, I will make a shout out to Skins (all seasons) and Degrassi too- but I am a bit detached from those shows because I can’t really personalise with them, though I am interested in what teen POC’s and people who do connect with these shows have to say about them.

So after my Misfits binge of POC reppin goodness, a good friend of mine suggested the show- Being Human, to me ( the UK version of course).

Look, I don’t want to make the comparison that British tv is better than US television-because I have seen some pretty epic US based shows- but so far in my limited adventures in TV land, the UK does pretty well in repping POC folks and their sexualities. Once again, I was impressed by the portrayal of Annie. Like, they gave her depth, they gave her a sence of agency over her sexuality, and there wasn’t this sense of “othering” when she engaged in that glorious relationship with Mitchell.

Now don’t get me wrong, POC rep wasn’t the only thing that got me to love these shows. Like the writing was epic, the acting was glorious, I mean both shows did such an epic job at story telling and characterisation well I could babble on forever.

But as a POC woman who for most of her life was only ever shown other POC women on tv as flimsy stereotypes and side characters who turned into weird fetishes when they had sex- this was ground breaking stuff for me. Shows like this told me that WOC had a place in romances and leading roles and could embrace their sexualities. These shows told me that WOC didn’t have to be raped or experience some sort of sexual violence to be complex individuals. I look to Skins for the next example- if there was one thing I loved about that show, it was the diversity in POC people in that show. People could watch these shows without being given the opportunity to stereotype POC’s the way a lot of the media often does. Again, I do accept that Skins was also riddled in some problematic stuff and I’m not haling it as the beacon on all things diverse- but it did a far better job at it than most other shows have done.

I do admit to the obvious fact that there are probably a lot of other Western shows out there that also done a good job at repping POC folk, but I have not had the opportunity to see them yet. But shows like Misfits and Being human give me hope for the future of POC representation especially in regard to our sexuality and our identity in general. I’m keen on seeing more complex explorations of Asian identities in a Western society. The same goes for Middle Eastern identities. Indigenous. African. Just generally marginalised ethnicities and cultures which are often appropriated and erased in the process of making it into mainstream media.

I dunno how to end this or what I’m asking the reader to do here- but I guess as a POC woman, I’m just tired of what have to see and deal with in real life and in the media. I’m just longing for the day when the word “exotic” is removed as a way of describing someone.

I also to accept and acknowledge that I may have skipped to some vital shows and point that I did not mention, so I’d also like to make this my invitation to anyone else who’d like to add to this or create more discussion from it. This certainly won’t be my last post on the topic of POC identities and sexualities in Western society.

this this this all of this

I have this weird tendency to make myself an Other, probably because I look and am perceived by most folks as white. So I make a big deal out of my nativeness to validate my identity, I guess? I’m really starting to feel how damaging that is though, because then people I’m hooking up with (usually dudes, for some reason most girls are cooler about race? actually I’ve never been with a white girl…) start doing what you were describing. Especially when I consider how disturbingly native women get treated by white people/society (missing and murdered Aboriginal women, ridiculously high rape statistics, etc). So I guess I suck.

…and now I really need to start watching those shows

ALSO in the American remake of Shameless, there was this awesome interracial couple (white dude, black girl) who love each other so much, get pretty great character development, and have lots of awesome sex

kevinless:

“your leader”

Someone please tell me this isn’t real. I get the joke. I appreciate the joke. I’m amused by the joke. But can we not inflate her already massive ego/messiah complex?

He called her the leader of the Human-rights campaign thing (I really don’t remember, but I know he didn’t mean like the leader of the LGBT community.)

And she doesn’t have a massive ego/messiah complex what what what are you talking about?

Yea, that’s adorable and all but she does. Like, really does. Which is fine and dandy except for the fact that she would very clearly like to think of herself as “the leader of the gays”. If you don’t think she has some kind of hero complex, then you’re not really paying attention or we’re talking about two different people. This is a woman who constantly asserts herself as some form of hero to the gay rights movement (emphasis here that we’re talking about gay, not LGBT. Yes, there is a huge difference there). This is a woman who said she was writing a ‘gay anthem’….that isn’t how it works. There’s a beautiful article going around that summarizes exactly why it doesn’t work but the bottom line is this: We choose our anthem. It isn’t chosen for us.

As for having a large ego; really? You honestly don’t see the big ego on her head? Little tip: Just because someone is good, and sweet (which she generally is, though she’s had plenty of fuck-ups) doesn’t mean they aren’t radiating ego. And it isn’t to say that most of that ego is undeserved. She works her ass off, she should be proud. But this whole “marketing the hell out of myself to the gays because they should love me and accept everything I do because I’m their hero and will save them” thing is getting old. Or have we forgotten her twitter post (I refuse to say ‘tweet’ in this context damn it) about how she (and her fans) “should accept no hatred or criticism” as if A)the two are one and the same or B)that the criticisms applied to her are not completely valid (they are).

She’s a lovely person (usually). Really, I adore most of what she says and does but let’s not delude ourselves here and think she doesn’t enjoy the hero-ing. Which again, isn’t a bad thing until she starts being treated as

Tl;dr? Ok, she and her fans refer to her as “Mother Monster”.

Think about that for six seconds and tell me it doesn’t have just a teensy bit of ego-tripping involved.

I need to make this clear: I do not hate Lady Gaga. I enjoy her. I appreciate her efforts. What I dislike is how she touts herself as a hero to the gay rights movement, while simultaneously doing some really fucked-up things and, more importantly, failing to recognize any of the criticisms laid against her. That is where I find her ego to be the most obvious: She’s right, end of story. “Accept not criticism and hatred”.

I need to not write this stuff right after I wake up. Especially on such a gross looking day. x.x

Exactly all this. I have respect for her as a performer (though her music was never my thing, personally), but her ego just got HUGE, it keeps getting bigger, and she and her fans will accept no legit criticism. Even though one thing you should accept as a performer, and ESPECIALLY if you really want to support the gay community, is criticism.

People- none of this matters.

Lady Gaga has been massively anti-trans in the past. Look up lady gaga cissexism. That horror “born this way” was also racist and there may have been other instances. Whether or not she’s ego-tripping, she’s a bigot and has no right to be “leader” of anything that is supposed to include the very people she’s pissed on.

<strike>(which is why it’s appropriate if she’s the leader of the HRC)</strike>

“He called her the leader of the human-rights campaign thing (I really don’t remember, but I know he didn’t mean like the leader of the LGBT community).”

Because obviously, 1) the LGBT community isn’t fighting for human rights, they’re fighting for unicorn-shapes cookies, and 2) Lady “I’ll use disability imagery to be edgy” “I’ll appropriate racist slurs despite being white” “I’m thin, white, and cis and don’t have any visible disabilities, but my beauty is totally unconventional because look at all these exotic things I wear! (Some of which I’m appropriating from marginalized cultures)” Gaga is clearly fighting for everyone’s human rights.

Like, it’s even more offensive because saying she’s the leader of the human-rights campaign is implying she’s the leader of the LGBT community and plenty of other communities she’s not even a part of.

just a reminder: attending protests is a privilege.

bohemianarthouse:

you get the idea

sometimes i get annoyed with activists who assume that everyone can go to these things

mipiacemolto:

This was a full page ad in the Canadian National Post.

With the Ontario Provincial Election fast approaching, many people feel that their opinion MUST be heard. That’s when private partisan ads, like these, begin to find there way in the faces of the general public.

This, my friends; is a total disgrace. This ad is not only hugely offensive to the entire LGBTTQQ Community in an outward attack, it also bases its’ arguments on the concept that people who identify as LGBTTQQ are not real people. WHAT IS THIS!!! This is Canada we’re talking about! Yet, here we are being faced with this hideous form of discrimination.

Also, while it does seem like an overkill to point out, I still feel this issue needs to be addressed. This ad, which is brought to us by the apparent “Institue for Canadian Values” as an attack on the Toronto District School Board, uses children as the face for this attack-ad. Not only is this strategy weak and low on their part, but it is also an opportunity to see the real character of these people. They claim that the School Board is corrupting their children, and here they are, using and corrupting their children themselves so that they can grow up to abuse the human rights of other people because they weren’t given the curriculum to understand that human rights are rights that ALL humans deserve.

To top it all off, they hide behind arguments such as religious rights/beliefs (which I would like to point out, all religions focus on the fair treatment of all individuals and their human rights) and the main argument that teaching children about all types of people is somehow harming and/or corrupting them.

My argument is this: ALL PEOPLE deserve equal human rights. This would not be an issue if the curriculum was focused on racism or ableism. Instead, because the focus is on homophobia and anti-heterocentrism, it somehow is an entirely different issue, which I argue is wrong and, in itself, abusive to human rights and the premotion of ignorance and hate.

Non-progressive ads like these are what set back any human rights activism and lead us to further abuse.

This needs to be stopped. Anyone who actually understand their religion understands that we need to accept and love everyone. I am hurt that this group thinks all religion people are bigots and that anyone who has “Canadian values” is a bigot.

i took you by the hand and we stood tall.: Unpopular opinion: I don’t want Kurt to just hand Blaine the flowers and let him go off to take the lead.

singingtomysoul:

Not because it’s wrong for Blaine to audition for it or to get it.

Not because it’s wrong for Blaine to want something for himself or to get it over Kurt.

Not because it’s wrong for Kurt to be mature about it.

Because I just want Kurt to be honest about it. I want him to say ‘you’re great,…

Yes. Blaine has the right to want something for himself, but he knew how important this was for Kurt. Also, he had agreed on not auditioning for Tony. Why did he have to go and sing that particular song? I don’t know how would this be treated in canon. Most probably with Blaine being just oblivious, but all I can see is that he violated Kurt’s trust. He should have simply been honest and warned him that yes, he was going to try and get the role. Instead, he saved face in front of Kurt but still tried his luck in front of the judges, so he gets it all: the thankful, loving boyfriend and the opportunity he was seeking for. Again, I don’t care what canon says. To me, Blaine was manipulative and doubled face. Can he be forgiven? I guess if Kurt loves him enough and he makes up big time for this. Though, I don’t know how he will accomplish that.

…okay, are you serious? Blaine never agreed to anything, he flat-out told Kurt he was auditioning with a Tony song and never said he wouldn’t be, even when he changed his audition choice because Kurt put subtle pressure on him. It takes time to prepare an audition piece, and changing his mind last-minute can’t always mean changing what he prepared, if we’re even looking into it that deeply. He’d have every right to go for that role if he were, the best person for the part should get it, but it’s explicitly said that he was not - he told Kurt that and he told the judges that with no idea that Kurt was watching.

“I don’t care what canon says”? Blaine is not a real person. Kurt is not a real person. Bad writing can make a character look a certain way, but like hell the intent of what the writers were doing doesn’t matter. If Kurt were upset with Blaine for doing something he flat-out told Kurt he was doing to begin with, I’d be pissed at Kurt and no one else. And if you want to go on subtext, I don’t think Blaine would have looked alternately shocked and torn at even being asked to read if he ever expected it to happen.

Seriously. You don’t audition with a song for the lead role if you don’t want that part. (Really you don’t audition with a song in the production you’re trying to be cast for, but if you do then you clearly want that character.) As soon as Blaine told Kurt his song choice Kurt knew what he was up against, that’s why he started worrying. It was pretty damned obvious. Blaine saying juniors never get leads and he’d be happy with another part wasn’t him saying he wasn’t auditioning, it was him noticing that Kurt was freaked out and trying to reassure his scared boyfriend.

I attribute it to bad writing. But aside from that, we know that he was going to audition for Tony at first. He practiced Something’s Coming because he did want that role. For all we know, he may have decided against it for Kurt’s sake (and written down that he was only auditioning for Bernardo) at the last possible minute. He never even told Kurt he wouldn’t be auditioning for Tony. I think the face he did at the end wasn’t the double-faced “What? How is this possible? Why would they even consider that a possibility?” expression haters make it out to be but instead a “Shit, I would love that part, but it would upset Kurt. Shit, shit, what do I do?” expression.
